A WEEK OF CONNECTION, COMMUNITY, AND COMPASSION IN WORKERS’ COMPENSATION
Our Workers’ Compensation team just wrapped up an exciting week filled with events, outreach, and a little bit of pampering! Here’s a quick recap of all that we were able to be a part of as we connected with industry professionals, learned from experts, and supported a cause close to our hearts.
We kicked things off by sponsoring a special “Nail Night” for attendees of the Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Symposium—a fun evening where symposium guests could unwind and get pampered in a relaxed setting. It was a fantastic start to our three days of networking.
Next, we headed to the rooftop of Bierhaus Maisschäler for Kids’ Chance of Nebraska’s (KCNE) annual Octoberfest fundraiser, which we were honored to sponsor and participate in. This lively event, with views, refreshments, and good company, raises critical funds to support the educational needs of children whose parents were severely injured or killed in workplace accidents.
The highlight of the week was sponsoring the Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Symposium, hosted by the Workers’ Compensation Association of Nebraska (WCAN). The two-day symposium included insightful presentations from professionals within the industry. Tom Shires provided legislative updates, specifically relative to the Two Member One Accident rule and its impact on employers. Paul Barta and Makenzie Falcon presented on “Temporary Loss of Earning Capacity Revisited,” and Chris Schmidt participated as a panelist on “Ensuring a Workers’ Compensation Claim Doesn’t Become an Employment Law Claim,” offering strategies to navigate complex claims more effectively.
Dallas Jones, our engaging MC, helped keep the energy up and the conversations flowing. We were also pleased to co-sponsor the symposium’s Comp Crawl—a great way for attendees to wind down and connect with colleagues.
Our support for organizations like WCAN and KCNE reflects our commitment to making a positive impact, both within our industry and our community. We are proud to work alongside these esteemed organizations, contributing to a field that strives to protect and support workers and their families.
At the Symposium, WCAN presented its 2024 donation of $45,000 for young scholars. From 2017 to 2024, WCAN has donated $241,000 to KCNE through memberships, monthly lunch and learns, fundraisers, and the annual Symposium. The annual membership drive for WCAN has just begun.
