Rise in Mileage Reimbursement Rate
Effective January 1, 2015, the mileage rate for injured employees traveling to seek medical treatment or participating in a vocational rehabilitation plan will rise from 56 cents per mile to 57.5 cents per mile. This conforms to the reimbursement rate paid to State of Nebraska employees.
Pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. §48-120, the employer of an employee injured in a compensable accident is liable for the employee’s reasonable travel expenses incurred in receiving medical treatment or vocational rehabilitation services. Travel expenses may be unreasonable if there is a lengthy distance traveled when similar services are available in the claimant’s home community or a closer community.
