Governor Branstad appoints Joe Cortese as Workers’ Compensation Commissioner

The Office of Governor Terry Branstad announced yesterday that the Governor has appointed Joe Cortese as Iowa Workers’ Compensation Commissioner. Cortese is a partner at the Des Moines law firm of Huber, Book, Cortese & Lanz, and has over thirty years of experience in the area of workers’ compensation.

Cortese is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association, Polk County Bar Association, Iowa Association of Workers’ Compensation Attorneys, Iowa Defense Counsel Association, Defense Research Institute, and is a founding member of the American Academy of ADR Attorneys. This appointment is subject to confirmation by the Iowa Senate, but Cortese will assume his role as Commissioner on February 16, 2015.
