Deputy Commissioner Michelle McGovern Named Acting Workers’ Compensation Commissioner

Governor Terry Branstad announced on September 8, 2014 that Deputy Commissioner Michelle McGovern will serve as acting Workers’ Compensation Commissioner effective immediately. In early August, former Commissioner Christopher Godfrey announced he was resigning, as he now serves as Chief Judge and Chairman of the Federal Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board.

McGovern has served as Deputy Commissioner for 26 years and began working for the Iowa Division of Labor (the precursor to Iowa Workforce Development) in 1982. She will serve as acting Commissioner as the search for a permanent Commissioner continues.
