MATTHEW G. DUNNING

Matt is a Partner at Baylor Evnen, where he focuses his practice on multifaceted employment law matters. He brings a pragmatic perspective to his clients, informed by professional experience that has given him a 360-degree view of the employer-employee relationship.

Having successfully represented both businesses and high-level executives in diverse settings, Matt has a unique understanding of the goals, risks, and leverage points on both sides of the table. This background allows him to craft practical, business-oriented solutions for his clients, whether they are managing a workforce or considering a new business or change in employment.

Matt advises businesses, C-suite executives, and licensed professionals on career transitions, employment and ownership agreements, and severance negotiations. He also represents financial advisors in regulatory matters before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).

Workplace Risk Management & Compliance For employers, Matt serves as a trusted strategic advisor. He focuses on mitigating risk by developing and advising on the implementation of effective employment agreements and personnel policies and practices. He provides counsel on the full “alphabet soup” of employment law, helping clients address complex compliance matters involving the EEOC, DOL, OSHA, NLRB, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, and more; Matt has advised clients before dozens of local, state, and federal administrative agencies.

High-Stakes Disputes & Asset Protection When employment relationships become contentious, Matt acts decisively to protect his clients’ interests and advocate for their needs. He manages sensitive terminations, advises on the protection and retrieval of intellectual property, and handles challenges involving key employees. Matt structures agreements and litigates matters concerning restrictive covenants, including noncompete, nonsolicit, and confidentiality agreements; if ownership or unfair competition issues are involved, Matt’s clients have benefited from his representation.

Matt is excited to bring this experience to the Lincoln community and greater Nebraska. Whether advising management on a termination or an executive planning the next step, he helps navigate the legal landscape so leaders can focus on what they do best.

Outside of the office, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, adult children, and new grandchild, working on his wife’s small farm.
